While parts of the United States is on a month long lock-down, I continue to receive the question from many team coaches and private trainers on they can do to keep their players active through the pandemic. The answer seems quite obvious, GO ONLINE! However, that’s the easy part. How can I go online and bring these training sessions to our players? What can be done when we are social distancing? While everyone is here juggling toilet paper, you can come with a different approach and do simple individual skill training, juggling, and even body weight workouts.
Some parents or players may ask, “what do I need? Going to the market is hectic right now.” You don’t need anything other than a ball (which you should already have) yourself, and a hard working mentality. For the players that want to be a professional player, then this is the opportunity for you to spend some quality time with the ball and separate yourself from all of the other players.
Coaches, it’s very simple for you as well, you can continue to operate your team training sessions through live videos on Facebook, Instagram, or Youtube. All three platforms are free to use and it’s very easy to set up. With your live trainings you can have all of your players join you at the time that you want the team to train (don’t worry, we all have nothing but time right now). Begin with with your dynamic and static warm-up stretching and move along to juggling the ball, this is a great time for the players to improve their juggling as it’s one of the most basic and simple skills for a player to know. Move along towards some ball technical training, and close out with body weight training.
All of this sounds very amateur and easy, but we all have to remember that we are limited with our resources and we all must get creative with how we can continue moving forward as coaches, managers, and players.
