Porto President Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa has confirmed the retirement of Iker Casillas. We can all agree that he is an all time legend between the sticks. One of the biggest shocks of his career was when Real Madrid decided to sell him to FC Porto. As we all thought that he would most likely end his career with the Los Blancos, the club had different plans for his future.
The Spanish goalkeeper can confidently say that he has won everything that one player can possibly with a team. He is a three-time Champions League winner in 2000, 2002, and 2014. One time Portuguese league winner in 2018. We also cannot forget that he was on the astonishing four – year run with the Spanish national team when they won the European Championship in 2008, World Cup in 2010, and again European Championship in 2012. If you want to spice everything up, he was ranked 4th overall for the 2008 Ballon d’Or .
After suffering from an heart attack last year in his training with FC Porto, and with age somewhat against him. Along with his retirement, Casillas as announced his candidacy to be President of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). Though, we thought his career has ended, he is only getting started. Maybe he is considered “too old” as a player, but he is still young as a human-being. Do you think Casillas is worth a shot as President of Spanish Football?
